The Crawdaddy! Magazine website featured an article in May (sorry, late on this one) comparing David Bowie and Kanye West. I don’t know a whole lot, or anything at all, about Kanye except for the fact that he loves the Caps Lock key but the article is an entertaining and thought-provoking read. In fact, I think I might have to check out 808s and Heartbreak.
The first film written and directed by David Bowie’s son Duncan Jones, Moon, is now playing in New York and Los Angeles. It has garnered a lot of favorable critical reviews, no naturally the Webmaster and I (and all other Bowie and potential Duncan Jones fans) are eager for it to be released nationwide. I could link you to a million favorable reviews, but instead I’m going to link you to what I think is the best one, on my favorite movie review site Pajiba. Without further ado, the review of Moon. Find showtimes in your area by visiting Yahoo! Movies*.
*I don’t get paid by Yahoo! or anything like that, it’s just an easy site to navigate.
Posted in News | 1 Comment »Duncan Jones’ debut flick Moon has been garnering a lot of favorable critical reviews lately. The latest in the line up of festivals to showcase Moon is the Edinburgh Film Festival. The dates are as follows:
Saturday, June 20, 2009 – 9:00 pm at the Cameo 1
Tuesday, June 23, 2009 – 9:15 pm at the Cameo 1
Tickets will be available for £8.50 and £7.50. For more information on the Edinburgh International Film Festival visit their homepage; directions to the venue are available on the Cameo section of the site.
I always want to go back to Edinburgh, but now I really want to go so I can attend the festival!
On July 14, Virgin/EMI will release the David Bowie: VH1 Storytellers episode on CD/DVD. As with any interview with Bowie, he gives a lively recounting of important points of his life and a super performance of new and classic favorites. This is one that the Webmaster and I will definitely add to our collection. In fact, I’ll probably visit my local independent music store a few days before and ask them to put one on order for us if they’re not planning to stock it. And if they’re not planning to stock it, then I will convince them to do so.

Posted in Circle Of Friends, More To Own, News | Comments Off on Reminder: Two New David Bowie CoversEarlier this week the Webmaster and I were watching something on Comedy Central (probably South Park, The Daily Show, or The Colbert Report), when the a commercial for Ron White’s new special aired. The Webmaster rewound the program and pointed out to me that Ron White is morphing into David Bowie. For those of you who don’t know who Ron White is, visit his Comedy Central bio page. Watch the Scotchguard and Scottish Nationalists videos. And to provide pictorial support of the Webmaster’s assertion, I present Exhibit A.
Not enough proof? I found this picture while searching for a current photo of White. I present Exhibit B:
DISTURBING. I don’t dislike Ron White; I think he’s a decent comedian (and I appreciate that he doesn’t use stereotypes of Southerners to get cheap laughs unlike some of his Blue Collar Comedy Tour compatriots, ahem LarrytheCableGuy). But a man who once went by the alias of Tater Salad is not someone I would ever guess would become a Bowie Doppelganger.

Musicians Michael and Spider have released the first two songs in their “Diamonds” project. It’s a collection of 10 David Bowie covers. The press release sums it up best:
Yet another dance company has found inspiration in the work of David Bowie. The Michael Clark Company will be touring a new performance this summer that is based on the Seventies-era works of Bowie, Lou Reed, and Iggy Pop. Choreographer Michael Clark took particular interest in the work of the artists did during the Seventies since it was a creative time that produced masterpeices from all three working together and separately. The show will premiere on June 25 and 26, 2009 in Venice and tour Europe into 2010.
